Fabiën VlemsHidden between high modern buildings in Berlin lies the unique hotspot House of Small Wonder. We had lunch here, enjoyed the sun and escaped the hustle and bustle of the city. House of Small Wonder is a must when in Berlin!
I had already passed this great hotspot a number of times on Pinterest and saved it in Google Maps, which I always do with hotspots that I come across.
When we walked past the building where the restaurant was located, we were not quite sure if we were at the right place. It didn’t look like a place for a hipster hotspot at all. Carefully we meandered along road works and we stood in front of a modern door. Fortunately, we found a small sign on the side with ‘House of Small Wonder’ written with chalk.
When we entered we immediately knew we were in the right place; the photogenic staircase of all Instagram and Pinterest photos I had come across was right in front of us.
Because it was so hidden, it was not busy at all in the restaurant. You have to know that it is there, you certainly do not just walk past it. After all, you have to climb this staircase before you enter the restaurant.

Concept House of Small Wonder
‘Because everyday life is not about the big wonders, it’s about the small wonders that make things just a little more pleasant‘. This quote can be found on the website and is reflected in everything you see: the interior consists mainly of natural products, the food is mostly organic and the dishes are all small works of art. If you want to be sure that you have a place, I advise you to make a reservation in advance.

Food and drinks
We were not very hungry but we definitely wanted to try something. The organic scrambled eggs are in any case approved. They have all kinds of dishes from different egg dishes to sandwiches, all prepared with flavors from the Japanese cuisine. Many of which are vegan options. House of Small Wonder also has its own cookbook. In this book you will find a number of recipes of the dishes on the menu, but also fun stories about the origin of House of Small Wonder. Vicky bought it for € 35.00. You can order the book online or in the restaurant itself.
General information House of Small Wonder
Location
Even though I would like to say that you have to search yourself, it is almost impossible in this case, especially if there are roadworks. You can find House of Small Wonder in Johannisstraße 20 in Berlin. So it is a fairly modern building, on the side you can enter a door and then you should immediately see the beautiful staircase, if not abort mission, then you are in the wrong building.
Price
The prices are slightly more expensive than average, but it is absolutely not prohibitive. And the price you pay is totally worth it. For example, you pay € 8.00 for a salad and € 3.50 for the scrambled eggs if you order them separately.
Opening hours
House of Small Wonder is open from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm, you can have brunch from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm and from 5:30 pm they serve dinner.
Other locations
In addition to the restaurant in Berlin, there is also a House of Small Wonder in New York, Brooklyn. This establishment has just such a nice interior and also serves some of the same dishes.

All in all, I thought it was a very nice hotspot where we spent at least an hour. You escape completely from the busy city and find yourself in an indoor garden. The food is tasty, staff friendly and the interior beautiful. Definitely add this to your list when you are in Berlin!
